Word Dodge Privacy Policy (Workaround Literacy Ltd)
Compliant with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018
Data Roles & Responsibilities
Word Dodge is owned and operated by Workaround Literacy Ltd. When used within an educational setting:
- The School / Academy Trust acts as the Data Controller. The school retains full ownership and administrative control over student accounts and data.
- Workaround Literacy Ltd acts as the Data Processor, processing only the minimum data required to deliver learning resources and assistive tools.
Data Stored on the Word Dodge Learning Platform
To give students access to video lessons, digital resources, quizzes, and assignments, the school system administrator sets up student logins. The personal data held on the platform includes:
- Student Username
- Student First & Last Name
- Official School Email Address
Workaround Literacy Ltd does not collect home addresses, personal phone numbers, personal email addresses, or payment details for students.
Proprietary Apps (WD Read & WD Keyboard)
Our assistive tools (WD Read for screen reading and text scanning, and WD Keyboard for dictation and typing support) are designed to work locally on the device:
- No Data Storage or Transmission: Voice dictation, screen reading, and text scanning are processed directly on the device. WD Read and WD Keyboard do not record, store, or send student speech, scanned text, or audio off the device.
- School Cloud Storage & Student Work: When students create work, complete assignments, or take images within school applications (such as Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace apps), that work is saved directly into a dedicated cloud storage account created and managed by the school’s system administrator. This setup allows the school to handle backups and enables teachers and SENCos to review and mark student progress. Workaround Literacy Ltd does not host, store, or access student work or saved files.
Device Permissions
To function smoothly during lessons in school and while completing homework at home, the Word Dodge applications require standard Android device permissions:
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Microphone | Enables voice dictation via WD Keyboard. |
| Camera | Enables text scanning and screen reading via WD Read. |
| Storage | Reads essential application settings on the tablet. |
| Bluetooth | Pairs hardware such as headphones, keyboards, and mice. |
| Accessibility & Notifications | Prevents the Android system from turning off the assistive tools while the student is working in school or at home. |
